Traditional Vietnamese apparel are called áo dài which rough translate into long shirt. This style of clothing is for men and women and they look roughly the same. This type of clothing can be used for school, casual, and ceremonial purposes. It's sort of all-in-one shirt. This is very much modern and old apparel, this is equivalent to the European suit and tie but for women.

An apparel that is used to for ceremonial purposes is called the áo tứ thân roughly translate to 4-part dress. This is more often worn in the rural areas but not limited to those areas. The dress is worn when performing a ceremonial dance in celebration of coming of spring, a marriage or Tết or the Vietnamese New Year.
